Camden Maine Fishing - from freshwater to saltwater fishing, there are plenty of choices

The Camden Maine and Midcoast Maine regions have over 50 lakes or ponds as well as Penobscot Bay with its hidden coves, inlets and man-made piers which offer anglers many different opportunities to fish for a variety of species. The clean, deep beautiful local lakes and ponds are home to sport fish such as salmon, brook trout, lake trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, pike and other species. Local Maine guides can provide all of the necessary equipment and licensing for freshwater fishing as well as taking you to the best freshwater fishing spots in the area.

The cold Atlantic waters of Penobscot Bay provide saltwater anglers with fishing opporttunities for mackerel, striped bass, bluefish and larger saltwater game fish like sharks and bluefin tuna. You can fish the tidal waters for the smaller sport fish by shore casting or simply casting from public docks or piers in many of the local harbors. Serious anglers may want to charter a boat for deep-sea fishing opportunities for both sharks and tuna.

We have provided links to various fishing locations in the area ranging from a small lake to casting from a nearly mile-long pier in Rockland Harbor. We have also provided links for both local freshwater fishing guides and saltwater fishing charters in case you wish to be guided by a fishing professional with extensive experience and local knowledge. Check out the fishing venues listed below, plan your trip ahead and have fun fishing in the Camden Maine region.

Sea Venture Charters - Port Clyde, ME

Sea Venture Charters specializes in offshore fishing for sharks and Giant Bluefin Tuna. Our shark fishing trips are usually most productive from mid-July through August when the sharks migrate through Maine waters. These are all-day trips and involve chumming the sharks to the boat. Our clients fight the fish on stand-up rods, and the sharks are brought on board through the transom door for measurements, photos and tagging. Giant Bluefin Tuna fishing begins in June and continues through late summer and into October. Tuna are unpredictable but are probably the most exciting fish to catch on rod and reel. We have landed tuna over 900 lbs.

Maine Freshwater Fishing Information

A person is required to obtain a valid fishing license prior to fishing in inland waters or transporting fish taken from inland waters in Maine. A person is required to keep his/her fishing license with him/her at all times while fishing or transporting fish and must exhibit their license for inspection by any warden, department employee, guide or landowner upon request.

Possession of fishing tackle in the fields or forest or on the waters or ice in Maine without a fishing license is prima facie evidence of fishing in violation of state law. When obtaining a resident license, it is the responsibility of the applicant to submit proof of residency. Maine residents under 16 years or age and nonresidents under 12 years of age may fish without a license.

Maine residents (and immediate family members who live with that person ) may fish without a license from their own land if that person owns more than 10 acres of land, lives on that particular piece of land, and the land is used exclusively for agricultural purposes.

For information about licenses and laws concerning fishing in Maine, please visit the Fishing web page of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife web site.

To purchase a license for freshwater fishing from the State of Maine, you can visit Maine's online licensing program called MOSES (Maine Online Sportsman Electronic System) . Any resident, non-resident or "alien" sportsperson looking to fish or hunt in the State of Maine can purchase a license.
