Camden Maine Bowling - bowling centers in and around the Camden Maine area
Looking for something to do with the whole family? Generally, Maine is an outdoors state so when the weather is foul or miserable, you will want to engage in an in-door activity. There are two bowling centers in the Camden area that can help. The most unique is Oakland Park Bowling Lanes in Rockport, Maine which offers candlepin bowling. Candlepin bowling is a New England tradition.
As in other forms of bowling, with candlepin bowling the players roll balls down a wooden lane to knock down as many pins as possible. The main differences between candlepin bowling and ten-pin bowling are that each player uses three balls per frame, the balls are much smaller and do not have holes, the downed pins are not cleared away between balls during a player's turn, and the pins are thinner, and thus more difficult to knock over. Because of these differences, scoring points is considerably more challenging than in the more common ten-pin bowling style.
If you are not into candlepin bowling, there is also a more conventional ten-pin bowling center in Northport that is open to the public at the Point Lookout Resort.
