Boat Description
Balmy Days Cruises operates several boats ranging in size from 33 feet to 65 feet that provide daily sightseeing trips, (including day trip excursions to explore Monhegan Island), and fishing trips.
The Miss Boothbay is a 33-foot open style lobster boat carrying about 15 passengers for fishing. All tackle is provided for you. The Miss Boothbay, built by Young Brothers, is licensed for 25 passengers. She is popular for wedding transportation, small group charters, sightseeing, lobster trap hauling, and, of course, mackerel fishing.
The Novelty is a 47-foot fiberglass vessel, built especially for carrying passengers. She is primarily used for harbor tours and sightseeing excursions. Her license is for 106 passengers. The Novelty's hull was built by MDI Boat Works in Southwest Harbor in 1996.
The Balmy Days II was built in Arundel, Maine by DMR Yachts in 1988. She is a twin screw, 65-foot fiberglass vessel with a custom designed superstructure on a seaworthy off-shore fishing hull. Stabilizers were installed to ease the motion on offshore trips. She was built especially for the trip to Monhegan Island. She can carry 149 passengers.
Boat Trip Information
Balmy Days Cruises offers several sightseeing and boating excursions from Boothbay Harbor including daily boat trips to Monhegan Island, tours of Boothbay Harbor, lighthouse tours, and Mackerel fishing trips.
Daily Monhegan Boat Trip
From June 10 through September 26, the Balmy Days II makes daily trips from Pier 8 in Boothbay Harbor to Monhegan Island, departing at 9:30 am and returning at 4:15 pm after spending three hours and forty-five minutes on the island. The trip to Monhegan Island is approximately 90 minutes one-way. During your time at Monhegan, the Balmy DaysII also offers an optional around-the-island cruise.
Scenic Boothbay Harbor Tour
On this very popular trip you will see everything Boothbay Harbor has to offer. You will see lighthouses, marine wildlife, the rocky shores of Maine, boats of every kind (lobster boats, yachts, sailing boats and even an occasional cruise ship) and many other sights & sounds that make up the feelings people take home that you can only find in Maine, rain or shine.
Burnt Island Lighthouse Tour
This boat trip takes guests to visit Burnt Island Lighthouse. Keeper Joseph Muise and his family acquaint you with lighthouse living as it was in the 1950’s while you visit their home and climb the spiral staircase into the lantern room. Learn about Maine's fisheries, flora and fauna on your picturesque hike around the 5-acre island. Enjoy 2-1/2 hours on the Island plus a 15 minute scenic boat ride each way.
Mackerel Fishing Trip
There are lots of Mackerel to be caught in the waters near Boothbay Harbor. The Miss Boothbay will find several fishing spots where the captain will drop the anchor, and help you reel in the fish. The fish are plentiful, the scenery is spectacular, and the company is fun on this 2-hour boat trip.

Captain Bill Campbell
Captain Bill Campbell has been navigating the waters off Boothbay Harbor for 30 years. His first job was as a deck hand on deep sea fishing boats, and on the Squirrel Island Ferry, Maranbo II with Captain Bob Fish. Later Bill and his father, Captain Bob Campbell, teamed up after purchasing the Maranbo II and the original Balmy Days from Captain Fish. In 1988 the Campbell Captains supervised the building of the Balmy Days II to replace the aging wooden Balmy Days. Captain Bill's love for the ocean expanded to sailing with the purchase of the Friendship Sloop Bay Lady, and to fishing with the Miss Boothbay. In his father's tradition, Captain Bill carries on the operation of the family business.
